Old Business:
- Technician Class Review: Jeff, KD0IUX, reported that the class went very well. There were 13 students with 8 new ham licenses issued. Additionally, there were two people who showed up for the general test with one passing.
- General Class license session planning: Jon, KB0YDU, discussed plans for the upcoming General Class License review session scheduled for March 6th and 7th. Discussion centered on how to cover the long list of chapters in the time allowed. The method of following the ARRL PowerPoint slides would take too long. The scheme arrived at will be to have the students run computer practice tests for two hours Saturday morning followed by an hour long session for students to ask questions and instructors to decide what material should be covered in the afternoon. Afternoon instructions would then be ad hoc. Review and testing would remain the same on Sunday.
- Red Cross Office radio installation: Jeff, KD0IUX, reported that the weather has not moderated enough for rooftop antenna work yet. His plans now include both VHF and HF antenna installation.
- Bill, WA0QBZ, will be running for ARRL office: Bill, K0DEW, reminded all the ARRL members to watch for the ballot and to be sure to vote.
- Collinsville Hamfest: Tom, KN4JX , and Bill, K0DEW, reported that it was a great event with good participation from both hams and vendors. Bill indicated that it was his first time at the Collinsville event and was very impressed.
- Dayton Hamvention in May: Bill, K0DEW, reported that there have been no changes to the plans for the Dayton event. Bill and Mike will be staying at the hotel in town with the Collins Collectors folks. Tom and others will travel separately and likely stay farther out from town.
- Club officer election recommendations: After the conclusion of the last meeting, club member attendees as a group agreed to present the current club officer list for reelection. Additional candidates or suggestions would definitely be welcomed.
- Hospital Radio Installation: Jon, KB0YDU, reported that administrative reorganization and planning at St. Johns Hospital in Lebanon is complete and the hospital is ready for the radio installation to be completed. He will be working on that in the coming weeks.
New Business:
- Weather Spotter Training: Jon, KB0YDU, is inviting all folks interested to attend the training put on by the National Weather Service. This will be held on February 22nd at 6:30PM at some “undisclosed” location. Location will be determined as soon as possible but will likely be the Mills facility near the Cowan Civic Center.
- Statewide Tornado Drill: Jon, KB0YDU, reported that the statewide Missouri tornado drill will be held on March 9th (starting at around 1:30 PM). Jeff, KD0IUX, volunteered to man the radio at St. Johns hospital. The Red Cross office will be on the air and manned by the new hams there. Bill, K0DEW, volunteered to help out at the EOC. All hams are invited to help out ether at one of these locations or by checking in on the Lebanon 146.700 repeater.
- Club Roster on line: John, KD0IUY, suggested that to the club post a list of club members and other local hams on the LARC web site. This met with general approval by club members. Gary, N0GW, will provide the list for web site update. He also suggested we place some of the photos from the recent Technician class on the web site.
